David Brower is the founder of the
EarthIsland Institute and considered the force behind opposing
the proposed damming of the Grand Canyon. He is the former
president of the Sierra Club, author of countless publications
including Let the Mountains Talk, Let the Rivers Run, and
perhaps the most influential conservationist and preservationist
since John Muir. His work lives on through the Brower Youth
Awards honoring leadership in Conservation, Preservation and
Restoration.

Julia Butterfly is an activist and
educator known best for living over two years in a 180 foot
tall ancient redwood she named Luna to protect the tree and
those around it from logging. Her peaceful protests bought the
world's attention to the Headwaters forest. In recognition of
her dedication, Julia is the youngest recipient of the Ecology
Hall of Fame. She founded the Circle of Life in 1999 and continues
her work on the interconnectedness and protection of life.

and systems thinking in primary and secondary education. He
is the author of several international bestsellers, including

is the founder of the political-strategy communications agency
Communication Works. He recently cofounded The
Apollo Alliance, a group of progressive intellectuals calling
for major federal Investment in clean energy and energy efficiency.
Through his nonprofit Breakthrough
Institute Shellenberger is working with pollster Ted Norhaus
and a Candaian corporate marketing firm to practice sophisticated
